It is so refreshing to see Mayor Ken Livingstone, seeking to influence the tone that the media covers asylum and refugee issues. It’s obviously not a move aimed at winning votes. It’s simply the right thing to do. You can read about it here.The Refugee Council also has an excellent section on its website titled The Truth About Asylum which dispels many of the myths that have grown up over recent years.
One of the things I like about Ken is that he is prepared to show leadership on a wide variety of important issues - often proving to be ahead of his time. I'm glad that he chosen to publicise the difficult plight of asylum seekers and refugees.
